about

Hey, I’m Abi the future founder of the Change Festival and I only need a letter worth of your time. I am an 18-year-old student with an idea that could leave a big impact on the world, and sure this may be an idea that seems far-fetched for everyone else but lucky for you- far-fetched is very much my thing.

I’m looking for someone, just one person who believes in my idea and I’m really hoping that person may just be yourself.

What is this Change Festival? Well I’d really like you to think about society. Think about social issues such as climate change, the world water crisis, poverty and homelessness. Now think of a music festival, the type where you meet new friends moshing to the good sort of music, the ones where you’re excited for months to whip out an outfit and get some great Instagram pictures. What if there was a way to combine something so important and highly pressing in our society with something so memorable and unifying? Well that’s where I came up with the concept of the Change Festival.

A yearly music festival based in Melbourne, Australia, focusing on a different social need each year. The structure of the company would be an environmentally friendly, social enterprise. I get it that word ‘social enterprise’ is pretty scary but giving money to seriously needed concerning issues whilst giving memories is something that would be a new, exciting, and much needed concept- I mean look at how big the one off Live Aid concert was in 1985, promoting the conversation about the African famine!

A company that really inspired me with this idea was the ‘Thank you’ group. Their model of giving 100% profit to their cause, was something that really looked appealing to me and I’d hope to incorporate that idea with the change festival. For a few months I have worked on making a folio that comply with regulations and laws, new idea's and how the change festival really can become a reality. Obviously I need mentoring and to take advice on board from people like yourself but my values lie that I want to make a difference, to both the costumers of the event and to the social issues at hand, and I really would love to work with you, listen to you and learn from you to do exactly that.

So far this concept is nothing but an idea with a big potential, but I guess most things where nothing but an idea once too. I thoroughly believe in this event, with my generation really having a vocal stance about these social issues but also being invested in being involved in engaging, fun, music events. Just something to spark the flame and give you something to think about - around 20,000 students took to the streets of Melbourne in March this year to show their concern about climate change. Comparing that to the approximate 1, 700 students that attended the 2019 (completely sold out) Groovin’ the Moo Festival in Bendigo – Put these numbers and primary focuses (which share similarity with my concept) together and the interest in the Change festival would realistically be massive!

I only need one person to show that they believe in this concept, to show that it is something to invest in and to be able to have a voice that is listened to- again I hope you can be the person to give me the opportunity to do so. Help and support in any way shape or form is so appreciated so even if it's just sharing the love on social media, signing up to show your interested, emailing me feedback or donating time, resources or knowledge- I would really appreciate it! Thank you for taking a letter worth of your time, now it’s time to make a change.

Kind Regards,

Abi Parkinson
